I recently saw a friend sporting a very nice Daydreamer bag. I was taken aback by how good it looked. I asked her where she got it from, and it turned out that it was given to her as a gift from a colleague. I was very envious of my friend and wished I had one of those bags too.
At first I couldn’t believe it — the bag retailing for so much money, yet she got it as a gift? Well, that was quite lucky for her. But when I looked into it more deeply, I realized that the bag may have been counterfeit.
I thought back to when I had looked at the website of the brand. The stitching, the colors, the shape, and even the textures were spot on. Yet, I hadn’t seen any prices that matched my friend’s bag. The prices were definitely not that low. And there was no mention of a deal or sale on the website either.
That’s when I did more research into the bag style and discovered there were plenty of fake versions of them in the market. I instantly told my friend that she needed to be careful about buying this kind of expensive items as gift because she may get duped over the quality of the product.
I asked her few questions about the bag such as where was it made and did the price of the bag match the quality of the material? Also, I told her to take a look at the serial numbers on the inner side of the bag. This would help her identify if it’s an authentic product or a fake one.
My friend took my advice and did some investigation of her own. She came up with a few facts that led her to believe that the bag was a fake. For starters, the material of the bag was of very low quality and the bag had some irregularities in the pattern that the genuine ones did not possess.
We did some more digging and also noticed the seller did not accept any form of returns. Moreover, the seller had not provided any authenticity certificate or warranty for the product. This made us realize that the bag was sure to be fake.
In the end, my friend was thankful that I had warned her about the fake bag and helped her uncover the truth. She was also thankful that she had done her research before she spent hundreds of dollars on something that wasn’t genuine.
To make sure that the same thing isn’t repeated with other expensive items, my friend and I now saturate ourselves with knowledge about a product before buying it. This way it becomes difficult for someone to pass off a fake item as genuine. We read a lot of reviews and check out the authenticity certificates before making any purchase.
Since then, my friend has also been a lot more conscious and aware about her purchases especially the expensive ones. She takes a lot more care and effort to find out the authenticity of whatever she wants to buy. We both look up the seller’s reputation and background before making any decision.
