I recently found out the hard way that you should never, ever put a fake ID in your checked bag. It all started when I traveled to the next state over for a camping trip with a few buddies. One of them brought his fake ID in hopes of being able to buy some beer. I was desperate to make this trip the best I could, so I figured I’d help out my friend and put the fake ID in my bag for safekeeping.
Little did I know, that decision would come back to haunt me. When we got to the airport, I had to check-in my bag and when I did, the TSA agent pulled it aside for further inspection. I kind of knew this might happen, but I really wasn’t prepared for what was to come.
Right after that, an agent from the Department of Homeland Security came over and started asking me all sorts of questions about what was in my bag. I told him it was just some clothes, toiletries, and some other odds and ends. He then asked me if I had a fake ID in there and I nervously told him “no.”
Of course, that was a lie and they knew it. They asked me to open the bag and when I did, they pulled out the fake ID and then everything went downhill from there. They took me into a small room and asked me a bunch more questions. I was scared out of my wits and didn’t know what to do.
Finally, after about an hour, they let me go but not before they gave me a stern warning about the dangers of carrying a fake ID. They told me if it happened again, I could be facing serious charges and even jail time. I was a bit relieved to be getting off without any serious consequences, but that experience really made an impression on me.
Now I know for sure that fake ID’s just don’t mix with airports. That was a lesson I won’t soon forget.
I learned a few other lessons that day too. First, that you should never lie to the TSA, no matter how scared you are. Second, you should always be aware of what you’re packing in your bag. If I would have checked it more thoroughly, I would have noticed the fake ID and not put myself in that situation in the first place. Lastly, it’s just not worth taking the risk of bringing a fake ID to the airport. It’s not worth the trouble and hassle.
Now, I’ve become a bit more cautious when I travel, making sure to always check what I’m packing in my bags. I’d rather be safe than sorry! So, if you ever plan tofly with a fake ID, here’s some advice, don’t even try it! Just stay away from that kind of trouble because it’s not worth it.
Finally, when I was in that airport, I was tempted to ask the airport officers for their opinion about using a fake ID. From my experience, I got a sense that they didn’t take kindly to that sort of thing. I mean, I felt like I got off lucky with just a warning that day. I guess you never really know what’s going to happen when you get caught. Who knows what those officers would have done if I was actually arrested for it. Scary thought!
After my ordeal, I found out from my friends that buying alcoholic beverages with fake ID’s is a crime. I guess I was lucky that the airport officers didn’t really take it that seriously. But even if they had overlooked it, I still would have been breaking the law, which definitely isn’t something I want to do.
So ever since that day, I’ve made sure to check my bag twice before I leave for a trip. You just never know what kind of trouble you can get into if you put a fake ID in your checked bag. In the end, I’d rather just avoid the risk altogether. It’s just not worth it.
