It all started when I impulse-bought a fake MK crossbody bag at a flea market, I was so enthralled with the beautiful color and its surprisingly chic design that I could not resist the temptation! I was so proud of my purchase, however, soon after I arrived home and took a closer look, I immediately noticed that the quality of the bag was terrible! I couldn’t believe my eyes, I was stuck with a terribly fake MK crossbody bag that was poorly made. I was so disappointed! I was determined to do something with this bag so I took out a needle and thread and began to repair the sloppy stitching, the weak handles and the terribly general construction. After a few hours of diligent work, I created a make-shift masterpiece! Even though the bag was not authentically MK, it wasn’t a complete disaster, my fake MK crossbody bag looks almost desirable.
What I love most about this bag is the fabric and the hardware details, which look extremely similar to the original MK design – at first glance my bag almost looks real! The only thing that I can see that is different than the original design is the way the sequins and studs are sewed as well as the overall shape of the bag, they look slightly off compared to the original. During close inspections, most people might be able to tell that my bag is a fake, yet my friends and family instantly knew that it was not an MK bag when I showed it off to them.
I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t a bit embarrassed that I had this fake MK bag, but I have grown to love it and I am starting to get really good at spotting the fakes from the originals! I find the art of recognizing a fake to be quite fun and interesting as well, so that’s why I still sometimes have a look for imitation MK bags while out shopping. Maybe my next purchase will not be a fake, instead a real designer bag!
This experience did not leave me excessively satisfied but it certainly provides an entertaining tale that I will talk about for many years to come! A funny story to tell acquaintances, a failed-yet-successful journey. I could have walked away feeling extremely defeated but instead I used my creative abilities to turn a disaster into something desirable, something to be a bit proud of. Now that I know what to look for and what to avoid in the future, I’m sure I’ll invest in the real deal come next paycheck.
It makes me wonder: How many people, like me, have fallen victim to buying a fake MK and tried to salvage it afterwards? Did everyone have such a successful story as I did, or did they experience a much worse outcome? I guess I may never know the answer.
Upon reflection, I think I come to the conclusion that people should be extremely careful when buying any type of designer bag. Do the necessary research, watch out for any discrepancies or flaws in the details, check the material of the bag and make sure that the seller is reputable! And of course, always make sure to read the price tag! If the price is too good to be true, it usually is, and chances are it’s a fake.
Well, that’s my story and I hope it serves as a lesson to people who are thinking of buying a knock-off designer bag like I did. In this way, I can help someone else avoid making the same mistake as I did!
