My friend was visiting Dubai recently when she asked me if she could buy a fake Gucci bag there. As someone who’s been to Dubai several times, I immediately knew the answer—yes, it was definitely possible. Dubai is notorious for being the hub of counterfeit goods.
Now, let me be clear, I’m absolutely not in favor of such activity. And it’s not something I’d ever be a part of – but it’s the truth nonetheless! Gucci bags roam the markets and it seems like wherever you look, there’s a different kind of Gucci bag being sold.
The sellers would always assure you that the quality over there is the best. As someone who’s always loved Gucci brand, I was always a bit skeptical. The prices were certainly lower than Gucci stores—that’s for sure. But I wasn’t sure if it was actually worth the trouble and risk.
I’d try to persuade my friend not to go anywhere near these shops, but inside, I knew that it was pretty difficult to avoid it. Unless you had a professional check, you could never be completely certain if the item was authentic. I didn’t like the idea of her putting up her hard-earned money for a product that might turn into a dud.
So I ultimately convinced her to buy authentic products from the nearest Gucci store. It was more expensive, but I knew it was worth it. For starters, you’d always have the guarantee that the product was original. Plus, the quality was top notch. Even if you used it every day, it would stay as beautiful as the day you bought it, with no fear of it falling apart or losing its shape in a month or two.
But, I was still curious to know what kind of experience people would have getting a fake Gucci bag in Dubai. To satisfy my curiosity and get a better understanding of the situation, I started reading reviews online.
All in all, it seems like people generally found the quality okay-ish. But there were some who provided actual reviews for the bags, some of whom pointed out serious problems with the product–like fraying of straps, losing color or shape, not having metal lining, etc.
So, after learning this, I was certain that getting a fake Gucci bag in Dubai wasn’t a good idea. Even if you get lucky and find a good replica, there’s still no warranty or return option on these. Furthermore, it becomes really easy to spot a fake since the design is always way off when compared to the original.
Do you think I’m taking the right approach by advising my friend to buy only authentic goods?
