I’d heard stories of people buying ‘knockoff’ items online-ones that look just like the real thing-so when my friend told me he was eyeing one of those ‘authentic’ apple ziplock bags, I was wary. Before I even said anything, he said he was sure he’d get the genuine item. I didn’t feel too sure about it. He said he’d read about it online and that he could get the bag for about half the price of an authentic one. That still didn’t feel right to me.
So, I called up one of my friends who works as an IT specialist. He told me that the chances of getting a fake bag were high. He said fake bags didn’t have any guarantee of quality or of holding up well like an authentic one. I didn’t want my friend taking any risks.
I did a lot of research too. I looked at pictures of the real apple ziplock bag and the knockoffs that were being sold online. Trust me, the difference was crystal clear. The texture and color of one was a dead giveaway. Also, the shape and size of the bag varied between the two. I mean, there were some similarities between the two, but overall the authentic bags seemed more chiseled and well crafted.
I convinced my friend not to purchase the bag and recommended he go for the authentic one instead. He opted for the real deal and was really impressed with the quality and finish of the bag. He said the stitching was exceptional and texture nice to the touch. He also said the bag was quite spacious and could carry a lot of stuff.
That made me really happy and I felt fine about convincing my friend to choose the genuine product. But spending the extra money on the authentic bag taught me a very important lesson. It’s always better to buy something exempt from the risk area, rather than saving a few dollars here and there!
I’m so glad my friend chose the authentic apple ziplock bag. Because the fake might have looked the same but there would have been a lot of practical problems with it. For example, the zippers might not have held up, it might not have had enough space to store items like an authentic one and the texture might have felt different. It’s good to be budget conscious, but you don’t want to be stuck with something that isn’t going to work as intended.
After my friend got the bag, we went out to dinner and had a good chat about the whole scenario. He was really thankful that I’d suggested he get the authentic bag; he was worried that he was going to end up with a less superior product. I told him that there are times when we need to invest in the real thing and times when the knockoff might be okay.
Of course, buying a fake would be detrimental in the long run and it would be a waste of money too. So it’s always better to buy something of good quality that will serve its purpose. Buying an authentic apple ziplock bag was the right way to go for my friend and I’m glad it turned out well for him in the end.
