I approached the bag, ran my hands along it and oh! The sensations that ran through me when I saw the remarkable details of the loving craftsmanship. All the buckles, clasps, beautiful leather texture and the buckled handle. It was exactly the bag I had dreamed of.
I thought of my great aunt’s stories. Stories of when she was a young doctor in a distant era. When she was always running around with a big bag just like this one, filled with countless medical supplies she needed for her job. Oh, the stories she used to tell!
You know, they don’t make bags like this anymore. This was a real handcrafted piece and there was only this one. I felt blessed to find it. It was an instant connection with the past, with my aunt’s adventures. I could almost feel her presence as I touched the bag.
I knew at once that this bag would be the perfect piece for my decoration theme. It had a sort of special charm that could only come from a piece like this. Also, I had the feeling it could bring good luck and I needed it. So, I decided it would be mine and I took it home.
Back home, I proceeded to dust the bag and admired it once more. It was even more imposing in my house. I put it in an empty corner and there it stays, reminding me of the good times as I gaze at it every day.
But, what about for everyday use? I thought of occasions when I needed to carry a lot of stuff, such as groceries or other shopping, when I traveled with my family or went out with friends. Then the universe answered my prayers and I had an idea.
My first thought was why not I start using it to carry the things I need? That way, every time I used it, I was reminded of my great aunt. I discovered that the bag was very useful. Not just because of its capacity and practical features but also for the fact that it was a source of great nostalgia.
I love the fact that the bag looks the same as it probably did more than a century ago. It’s still amazing to think about the fact that a piece of leather made in 1880 is still going strong today! It makes me feel like I’m responsible for preserving a part of history, at least in my own little way.
