I was so stoked to find my favorite designer for a fraction of the price on the street market the other day. Little did I know, I’d stumbled on a bunch of fake Michael Kors bags from China. I’d been so excited to find an “original” – I was thinking about how much I’d save on this amazing deal.
Let me tell you friend, I should have stuck with my gut. It turns out, even though I could verify the seller was legit, the factory that made these bags were far from authorized. It wasn’t until I got the bags home and inspected them closer that I noticed the problems.
For starters, the stitching was shifty and uneven. I always scrutinize the stitching, so this was a telltale sign the designer bag was a knock off. Then, when I went to check out the interior pockets and logo stamp, I just about died in embarrassment. The logo was blurry and wiggly. It didn’t look anything like what I’d have expected from a Michael Kors bag.
I was so angry, and didn’t want to even think about how much money I’d just been scammed out of. I did some quick math in my head and realized I’d paid at least double for what any reputable seller would charge. I’m determined to never let that happen again.
At the time, I was really salty. I mean, how could I not be? Who wants to be taken advantage of? But my experience with the counterfeit bags has actually served as a great lesson for me. It’s got me thinking about how I should really pay more attention when I’m shopping or making any big purchases.
And I can’t stop ranting about it either! I’m warning my pals not to fall for the same scams I did. The sellers look so convincing and I can pick up all kinds of Michael Kors knock-offs on the street. I have to make sure I’m really paying attention to the details and looking out for any suspicious signs.
I’ve learned to purchase designer items from only trusted sources. I don’t even bother looking on the street market anymore. There are tons of reliable online destinations too. As long as I’m buying from a website with a secure checkout process and takes customer feedback seriously, I know I’m getting the genuine article.
For future purchases, I’m always examining the product up close before I commit to the buy. The next time I’m thinking about buying a Michael Kors purse, I’ll be sure to do the following things: check for proper stitching, inspect the logo, read up on reviews, and return policies.
Plus, I’m scoping out the materials used to make the bag, like the type of leather, fabric, and hardware. I’ll also scan the company website or ask the seller for a proof of authenticity. I definitely won’t be so quick to jump on a suspiciously low price again. I want to ensure that I’m getting the real deal.
