A few weeks ago, I was scrolling through Instagram when I came across an amazing deal- a fake Jacquemus bag was being sold for only £19.95! Instead of being suspicious, I became intrigued and decided to do some research on the seller. After looking into their website and social media, I discovered that the fake Jacquemus bag was practically a precise copy- from the sizing and material, to the logo and stitching- apart from the price. Now, I must admit, my excitement levels went through the roof!
But, as I’m sure you can guess, that bargain turned out to be too good to be true. I mean, I even knew better than to fall for it, yet here I was giving away my hard-earned money to be duped. Sure enough, when the bag came in the post I was sorely disappointed. It wasn’t just cheap-looking, some of the stitching was actually rubbed away- something I hadn’t noticed before. I was absolutely mortified.
In hindsight, I know I should have done more homework on the bag before making the purchase. I mean, a bargain price doesn’t necessarily mean the same quality as the real deal. With fake Jacquemus bags, you get what you pay for.
My experience certainly left me with a sour taste in my mouth, but it also made me appreciate genuine, designer pieces so much more. The craftsmanship, the attention to detail, and of course the luxurious feel of the material- all of that is worth the splurge. To be honest, I’m now more than happy to pay the extra premium for quality and classiness.
That’s not to say don’t go for bargains though! It can be tempting, especially when times are tough. But what I’ve learnt from this fiasco is that it’s important to check out what you’re buying, and try to understand any potential issues that can arise. Fake or not, always be sure to go for quality over price.
Also, there’s always the option of going for vintage or previously-loved designer pieces at a fraction of the cost. That way you’ll still have a bomb bag, without breaking the bank!
Finally, standing for authenticity is key. It’s hard work for designers to put together each piece of their collection, so let’s always show love and respect to those who actually make it.
