I remember it like it was yesterday. I was out shopping for some new things for my wardrobe, when I stumbled upon the perfect looking tote bag. I thought it was too good to be true – I mean, it was the perfect size, color and it even had some of my favorite quotes printed on it! It was like this tote bag was made for me! I thought this surely couldn’t be a fake – it was just too perfect.
But it turns out, I was wrong. After getting it home and using it for awhile, I noticed that the print on it had started to wear away, and the bag looked a little bit faded. That’s when I realized that it was, in fact, a fake!
But I was still in love with my tote bag. It reminded me of the first time I spotted it in the store and how I felt an instant connection to it. It was like I was meant to have it. Hence, since it was a fake, I just decided to keep it. It was a great accessory piece and it looked good on me, so I was content with it.
I think the lesson to be learn here is to be very careful while out shopping, because there is no shortage of fake pieces around. I mean, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is! You should always try to look out for craftsmanship to determine if it is something of good quality and worth the money.
Funnily enough, even after being duped by that fake tote bag, I’m still not as apprehensive when out shopping. I mean, okay I got a fake that time, but it’s still something unique and it’s still something that I enjoy. Fake items can be great accessories too!
Still, what happened that one time has made me more conscious when shopping around and I now make sure to really pay attention to the details. I’m careful to make sure that the zips are not broken, the material is good, and also make sure that the print on it is correct.
I also look out for good quality stitching and quality linings. I don’t think that you should ever settle for anything less when it comes to shopping for good clothes. And if it’s a tote bag, make sure that all the components match up nicely and there are no cut corners in manufacturing.
Lastly, I also pay attention to reviews and look out for tell-tale signs of a counterfeit item. I make sure to read tips given online to help spot whether an item is fake or not. Even though I still have my fake tote bag, I want to stay on the safe side and not get duped again!
