It’s really no laughing matter when you’ve been duped into buying a fake bag. You feel so ashamed, silly and taken advantage of. You can’t believe all that money spent and nothing to show for it. I know, I’ve been there.
I was out shopping for a special present for my mum when I stumbled across a beautiful handbag – it was just what she wanted, so I thought, “yes! this will be perfect.” I eagerly forked out the money, excited for the look on mum’s face when she opened it. When I presented her with the ‘designer bag’, her face immediately dropped. It was as though she knew right away it wasn’t the real deal. How embarrassing, right?
Turns out, I had fallen into the trap of believing it was a genuine designer bag when really it was a counterfeit. I had been scammed. It was shocking to realise that so many scam bags are being sold as genuine items in shopping centres around the country. It made me feel so angry and violated.
I should have checked more thoroughly before buying it. Looking back, there were some tell-tale signs that the bag was fake, like the poor quality of the leather and the loose threads hanging out, but I’d overlooked them in my rush of excitement to find the perfect gift.
My mistake taught me a valuable lesson. Before you buy, know the warning signs of fake designer items. Do your research, read online reviews and beware of cheap prices that seem to good to be true.
It’s also important to remember that fake bags are made with sub-par quality materials and will never last as long as an authentic bag. Additionally, even though fake bags look great when you buy them, they tend to degrade over time, making you look cheap and unprofessional.
But that’s not all, fake bags can also be harmful to the environment. They are usually made with unhealthy chemicals and toxins that get released into the air when the bag is produced. And they’re usually produced in countries with poor working conditions.
What’s more, counterfeit bags are usually made by organized crime syndicates. The money they make from selling these products goes towards funding more crime and illegal activities. So buying fake products is definitely supporting the wrong people!
No matter how tempting, I will never consider purchasing a fake bag again. And I recommend you don’t either. Doing so only encourages the counterfeit industry, which only hurts the economy by taking away money from genuine designers.
It’s better to save up and invest in a quality designer bag, rather than going for the cheap option. Not only will your bag last longer, but it also comes with a warranty. That way, if something does go wrong, you can get it fixed or replaced.
It’s definitely better to look and feel good without the guilt or worry about whether you’ve bought a genuine product or not. Authentic designer items never go out of style, making them a worthwhile long-term investment. Plus, when you search around, you can often find great opportunities to buy real designer items at a discounted price.
