I’ve had a love affair with fake blood bags for as long as I can remember. They always make a great prop for Halloween, parties, and for personal projects. So, let me tell you what I do when I want to fill fake blood bags.
First and foremost, it’s important to make sure I get a good quality fake blood. Low-quality fake blood doesn’t have the same viscous, deep-red look as the higher-quality brands. Plus, low-quality fake blood can often have an artificial or chemical-like taste. Yuck!
When I’m picking out my fake blood, I also make sure to get one that is non-toxic and non-staining. Most of the time, I get my fake blood from a local costume shop or party supply store. Otherwise, I order it online.
Once I have the blood, I get my bags ready. I typically use zip-top plastic bags for smaller amounts of blood and plastic squeeze bottles for larger amounts. Other times, if I’m using the blood for a specific project, I use latex or rubber sacs made specifically for fake blood.
I then fill up my bags and bottles with the fake blood. I usually try to leave about ¼ of an inch of empty space at the top so that the bag doesn’t burst when I seal it. I also add some gelatine to thicken up the liquid and give it that extra “bloody” look.
Once the blood is in the bag, I seal it tightly and then squish it a few times. This gives the blood a great, vein-like texture!
Then, I’m just about ready to put my fake blood bags to use! They look great on costumes, give props that extra special touch, and add that horror-movie-like realism to any project I’m working on.
When I’m ready to use the bags, I also make sure I have some supplies on hand. I have a pair of latex gloves, a first-aid and/or sanitation kit, and some apronsmade of plastic or vinyl. This way, I’m prepared in case of spills or accidents.
Finally, I make sure to keep the bags out of reach of children and pets. Although the fake blood might look and taste good to them, it’s not edible and could make them physically ill.
And that’s how I fill fake blood bags! Join me next time for more fun Halloween projects.
