I just got a brand new Coach Poppy bag and at first I was so excited. I had seen so many of my friend’s post about their Coach Bags online, and was eager to join the cool popular kids with my chic new tote. That was until I started researching whether or not the bag I had purchased was real. After a deep dive on the internet, I quickly realized that no, my new bright Coach Poppy bag was in fact a fake.
I felt duped by the store I had bought the bag from and a wave of regret came over me as I had just spent half my summer salary on it. I had seen similar style bags online for a fraction of the price, and now I wished I had followed my gut and purchased it from there. I totally felt like the poor girl with the fake designer stuff!
The discrepancy in the quality of the bag was apparent and quite frankly, offensive. From the feel of the leather to the brightness of the logo, I could tell my bag was a knockoff. I was expecting that lux, buttery feel of real Coach leather, but this was like a cheap, nylon tote. The stitches were off and the fabric didn’t seem like a color I had seen on the Coach website either. It almost seemed like someone grabbed a few supplies and just sewed it together quickly.
I starting to wonder who was profiting off this? Who is regulating this matter to make sure no one is on the receiving end of a fake bag? Could there be something I could do to make sure no one else had to deal with this issue?
At this point, I was trudging through every forum and social media post to figure out what others had done in this situation. Some of the stories I read were horrifying; people paying a premium price for a real product only to discover it was a fake. Others were just mad at being duped.
When it came to my particular situation, I had to realize that it was my own fault. I had been blinded by the prospect of looking fashionable for the summer and I had overlooked some red flags. I used to take pride in researching things I spend my hard earned money on, but this time I was too excited to take my time and now I’m paying the price for being so impulsive.
At the end of the day, I learned a hard but valuable lesson: you have to be aware of what you are buying and where you are buying it from.Yes, Coach Bags are expensive but it doesn’t mean you should settle for anything less. Fake bags looks cool, but it’s not worth the risk in the end. So next time you are looking for a Coach bag, be sure you do your due diligence and look into it of both the quality and authenticity before you make that purchase.
