making a fake wasp nest out of a paper bag

I recently decided to try my hand at making a fake wasp nest using just a paper bag! It was something I’d heard about on the internet, and I figured it would be a relatively easy to make my home appear to be a bit less inviting for the wasps. I was quite excited to get started – it felt like a real DIY project.

First up, I gathered all my materials – a large paper bag, scissors, a ruler, a glue stick, a pencil, and some cardboard. I cut the paper bag into sections measuring roughly 5×5 inches, then folded each piece over. I used the glue stick to stick each of the pieces together so they formed a round ball about the size of a baseball.

Once I had my paper wasp nest finished, I took it outside and hung it from a branch using some twine. I stepped back and admired my handiwork – it looked pretty realistic! The fake wasp nest was even able to fool the family dog.

I was really proud of my crafty callback to mother nature – this week, I’ve learnt how easy it can be to make a fake wasp nest out of a paper bag. Plus, I’ve realised that the nest is able to provide important protection from wasps, as it functions as an effective deterrent.

Now I’m keeping an eye on the nest, so I can see how long the paper wasp nest is able to fool the local wasps. I’m so excited to see how long I can keep the wasps away from my home using this DIY trick.

The second part of my project was to hang a decoy wasp web near my fake nest to really scare away the wasps. I hung a fake web made out of fishing line and a few pieces of paper with cutouts of paper chain links. I was really proud of how it turned out; it looked like a real wasp web draped over a tree branch.

I’m really glad I decided to make a fake wasp nest out of a paper bag – it’s been an interesting, rewarding experience, and it’s already making a difference in my backyard. I can’t wait to see what I can accomplish with more DIY projects like this one.
