My friend, have you seen or heard about the Snopes paper bag fake hornet nest? Let me say, I had no idea about it until I read an article yesterday. It’s a little piece of genius in terms of a prank or prank accessory. It’s meant to freak people out, but it’s totally fake – I admit, I got so worked up even though I knew it was fake.
Basically, here’s what it is. It’s a giant hornet’s nest made out of paper and it looks totally legit– like it could really be a gigantic wasp nest. You’d think twice before getting too close. All you need is a paper bag, TONS of ripped-up paper, and a glue stick. Once you’ve made the nest with the appropriate materials, you can hang it in a tree or outside somewhere– even on the side of your house if you’re feeling brave.
I personally find it a hilarious yet vicious prank – and it looks terrifying for anyone that doesn’t know it’s fake. It’s like playing a joke on your neighbours but it’s far funnier to see the reaction of a passerby. I could totally visualize my friends’ faces turning white as they come closer to inspect it– that would definitely be worth the hours it takes to craft one of these babies.
I definitely want to try this! I know a couple of people who would be totally baffled. I started to imagine what I would do and it cracked me up. I would anchor it near their window and watch them get freaked out. Of course, they would never suspect me because I’m always so sweet and harmless. It’s a good way to get a few laughs in, even though I don’t think it can be done too often.
But, the whole thing is that it’s real easy to make this. All you need is a paper bag and ripped up paper and glue and time. And if you’re hard-pressed for time, you might even be able to buy a life-sized replica from an online store. I mean, that would be worth the cost when you get to see peoples’ reactions especially when you harass them documenting it on video. They’d be none the wiser.
At the end of it all, if you’re in the mood for a good joke, the Snopes paper bag fake hornet nest is a great way to go. I’m still honestly considering it, even now. Next time my friends come to visit, I just might surprise them!
A few more things I could add on…
The more realistic it looks, the better. So it’s important to make sure that the paper nests look totally like the real thing. It’s also worth taking a few extra drama-inducing steps like adding strings and some old rags. For good measure, you can also throw in some fake spiders and cobwebs in the vicinity to terrify people.
If you want to be really extreme, you can play a harmless prank on someone and leave an ominous warning sign outside your fake nest. This will make people even more wary and adds a layer of realism to the prank. Of course, this is totally optional, but it can help heighten the drama if you want it super realistic.
Sometimes, it’s the little details that make all the difference in a prank. For instance, you can even make the nest a bit shaky and rickety when someone walks past it. This adds a nice touch of fear that no one could resist. All in all, the more effort you put in, the better it gets.
I know, pranks can get out of hand and they shouldn’t revolve around scaring or harming someone, but this one is pretty harmless compared to most. Have you ever done something like this or would you consider it?
