It all started when I saw the YSL Sunset Bag on Instagram. I was so drawn to the bag that I had to get one for myself. I read up on the bag and was very excited that it was now available. I started searching for the bag online and looked at both the real and the fake versions. I soon realised that it was very hard to differentiate between the two.
At first, I didn’t know which one to get. I asked for feedback from friends and family who knew more about these things. Although some people suggested to just buy the fake one, I was determined to get the real thing. I choose to buy the original one because I wanted something that was authentically made. I was done with all the fake knock-offs that I had previously bought.
After some research, I was able to spot the differences between the real and the fake. The original bag comes with an authenticity card, which is definitely something that the fake version did not have. On the fake bag, the ‘Y’ was misaligned, the fabric was different and the price was way too cheap.
When I finally bought the real bag, I was ecstatic. After all my effort in researching and verifying the real and the fake, it was such a relief to have the original bag with me. I checked the bag thoroughly and felt confident that it was indeed the real deal. I bragged to my friends of course, and was so happy that I had done the right thing. I was proud of myself for not just settling for the cheap and easy option of buying the fake bag.
I must admit that if I had not done my research properly, I would have ended up with not just a fake bag but a very expensive one too. That would have been a huge mistake, as I know the real version of the bag does not come cheap. I had learnt my lesson, and will always trust a certified retailer instead of putting my trust in a random seller.
Overall, being able to differentiate between the real and the fake YSL Sunset Bag was a learning experience for me.
In the next few sections, I’ll talk about the importance of buying an authentic bag, how to spot a knock-off, and the advantages of original products.
Firstly, as a consumer it is important to buy an authentic bag. Though there is no guarantee that the product you buy from a certified retailer is 100% authentic, at least you can be sure that it has been certified by the company itself. And more importantly, you will not be investing your money on something that is not real.
While buying an authentic product can be an expensive investment, it does come with its own advantages. Because the original bags are made with quality materials, they tend to last longer. It can handle wear and tear better and will often come with a warranty. The fake bags usually do not last as long and can sometimes be made of materials that are not good for your health.
In order to spot a fake bag, there is a few telltale signs that you can look out for. The ‘Y’ in the YSL logo is usually a good indicator, as it should be perfectly aligned. This is an easy mistake to spot but there are other ways to spot a knock-off. Checking the stitching, fabric, and price are also good ways to tell. When it comes to the price, an authentic bag should not come very cheap – this should already be a red flag.
Finally, I’d like to emphasize the importance of buying Original products. Though it may be more expensive, it is usually worth the investment. Not only are the products usually of better quality and last longer, but you can also be sure that it has been sourced ethically.
Another advantage I can think of, is that you’ll be able to enjoy the superior customer service that comes with original products. Plus, I always feel a sense of satisfaction and pride knowing that what I am wearing or carrying is authentically made.
